Dear Conference visitor,

The economic and financial crises mean that industry and distribution will have to become even more innovative to stand out in the market. They have long-standing expertise in the use of sight, touch and sound in developing services and trade and in manufacturing products. Taste and smell have been in use for a number of years, and and still today we are discovering new applications for these senses in industry and distribution.

Consider for example the cosmetics industry, one of the rare industries which has never stopped growing in France. In 2006 export sales showed growth of +53% and sales in France +47%1. Synonymous with innovation and luxury, the industry has made France a leader in this market. Cosmetic product consumers rate purchases according to their price, but brand loyalty and product attractiveness also play a part. This intuitive aspect is due to sensory characteristics – fragrances, tactile and visual feelings, etc. Those in the Cosmetic Valley centre of excellence, the brightest jewel in the French economy, have already started to incorporate sensory factors in their products and are carrying out intensive research in the field.

As a meeting-place in Cosmetic Valley, and on the initiative of AromAgri, we are the organisers of the Cosmetic and Sensory Conference which will be held at the Vinci Conference Centre in Tours from the 24 to 26 June 2009. This conference is supported by the community of the Tour(s) Plus conurbation, the Regional Office for Industry, Research and the Environment, and the General Council for Indre et Loire.

The aim of Cosmetic and Sensory is to be an international conference where research workers, academics, engineers, managers, marketing people and others can interact and exchange views with other complementary businesses, even though they work in other fields. It will provide you with an opportunity to extend your circle of contacts and business partners in the industry. The Le Sensoriel exhibition will be held in parallel with the Conference for two and a half days, and workshops are currently being planned.

The outline programme will open your eyes to the Touraine, a region of magic and charm, with its many chateaux and vineyards and its history.

We look forward to welcoming you before long at Cosmetic and Sensory 2009.
Until then
